WIFE- MOM - MAKEUP ARTIST Instagram: @annesiainprogress

HI ANNESIA! TELL US HOW YOUR PASSION FOR MAKEUP ARTISTRY BEGAN?

As the only daughter of a cosmetology instructor I literally was raised in a salon. Initially my passion for makeup stemmed from wanting to enhance my look for cheer and enjoying theater in HS. Later it became a means to make money during college.

TELL US WHY YOU DECIDED TO START A BUSINESS DOING WHAT YOU LOVE?

AnnesiaInProgress, LLC. Was founded in 2015 and encompasses my social media content creation as well as my makeup business I decided to finally start the business as entrepreneurship which allowed me the flexibility, I needed to raise my children.

WHAT DOES THE DAY IN THE LIFE OF A GIRL BOSS LIKE YOU LOOK LIKE?

My day-to-day varies based on clientele. No two days are ever the same. A busy day however starts with a virtual class and a few clients and ends with a family outing; and or my kiddos having an event or party.

TELL US YOUR SECRETS ON HOW YOU MANAGE BEING A WIFE, MOTHER AND ENTREPRENEUR?

How do I manage… A physical planner as well as I’ve learn to say “NO”— I take on only what I feel I can “balance”  and I rely heavily on my circle of support. As transplants to Michigan (Metro Detroit) it’s just my husband (Marcus) and I (TMHS, HS Sweethearts originally from Dayton, OH) with our 2 girls (Mia & Myli). Often times my husband is who I rely on most, he who is ever so supportive, loving and encouraging to most all my endeavors but also my sorority sisters, specifically the young ladies I guided into the sisterhood (I’ve been a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority INC. For over 13 years). Management of all the hats (being a wife, a mother, sorority sister the 1st and only daughter ( ) a friend and a budding MUA it’s definitely a “balancing act” but I’m adamant about identifying reciprocal relationships nurturing them and the importance of valuing the people who push and support us as well as showing appreciation.

BEING A MOM, WIFE AND AN ENTREPRENEUR IS TOUGH. HOW DO YOU MANAGE SELF-CARE?

Self-care for me is a trip to the hair/nail salon or a good 2 hrs in the gym. When I don’t need my edges to appear laid and time doesn’t allot for those things, it’s simply lighting my favorite Presto Candle, adding Aromatherapy bath salts to a nice warm bath and a soak.

WE ALL HAVE WOMEN WE LOOK UP TO IN THE ENTREPRENEURIAL WORLD. WHO WOULD YOU SAY IS YOU INSPIRATION, AND WHY?

My mom entrepreneurial inspiration would have to be one of my best childhood friends Tiffany Terry. She is such a motivational force to be reckoned with - a mom of 3, a loving wife, serial entrepreneur and a truly supportive and encouraging friend! I love her so much and extremely proud of her too!

WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE REGARDING ENTREPRENEURSHIP THAT YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED?

The best advice I have ever received, was to allow myself to fail fast and remain teachable - we are never done learning. Failure yields lessons which prepare us for the longevity with success.

CAN YOU SHARE ANY TIPS OR ADVICE YOU’D LIKE TO GIVE TO ASPIRING MOMS THAT WOULD LIKE TO START THEIR OWN BUSINESS?

My advice is to start now! Use what you have to start where you are…do it scared, don’t wait. We often don’t do things because we’re waiting to get all our ducks in a row and the truth is things can and most often will fall at some point. Don’t miss your opportunity because of fear.

WHERE CAN WE FIND MORE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS?
