The October Reset: Why Moms Are Choosing A Softer End to 2026
Because maybe the goal isn’t to finish the year doing more, it’s to finish it feeling more like yourself.
There’s something about October that feels like a shift. The school year is officially in full swing. The calendars are filling up. Sports, practices, homework, meetings, birthday parties and weekend plans have somehow taken over every open minute. The holidays are close enough that we’re already thinking about travel, family photos, gifts and where everyone will spend Thanksgiving. And somewhere in the middle of managing all of it, many moms are realizing something: we’re tired!
Not necessarily the kind of tiredness that a good night’s sleep fixes. It’s the mental tiredness that comes from constantly remembering, organizing, anticipating and making decisions for everyone around you.
That’s why this October; we’re embracing a different kind of reset. Not a dramatic life overhaul. Not another challenge. Not a perfectly color-coded routine that requires even more work to maintain. A softer reset!
You Don’t Have to Wait Until January
We’ve been conditioned to treat January as the month when we finally get ourselves together. January is when we’ll exercise consistently, drink more water, organize the house, get serious about our finances, start the business, read the books and most importantly MAKE more time for ourselves.
But why wait? There are still almost three months left in 2026, and that is plenty of time to change how the year feels. The October reset isn’t about asking, “How much more can I accomplish before December 31?”
It’s asking: What would make my life feel better right now?

Maybe it’s finally getting back into a workout routine—not because you hate your body, but because you miss feeling strong. Maybe it’s cleaning out the closet and buying a few pieces that make getting dressed exciting again. Maybe it’s saying no to something you would normally attend out of obligation or scheduling dinner with your girlfriends that everyone keeps talking about, but nobody puts on the calendar. Maybe your reset is simply allowing yourself to have a Saturday with nowhere to be. That counts too!
We’re Done Glorifying the Exhausted Mom
For years, motherhood has almost turned exhaustion into a badge of honor. The busiest mom must be the most dedicated mom. The mom who never misses anything must be doing it right. The woman who manages her children, marriage, career, home, friendships, extended family and somehow still looks put together must have figured out the secret.

Except there is no secret. Trying to be everything to everyone is exhausting. Perhaps one of the most luxurious things a woman can give herself in this season of life isn't another handbag, vacation or spa appointment. It’s margin! Space in the calendar! Space in the budget! Space in the house! Space in your mind! A life where every minute isn't already spoken for.
Make Your Life Feel Good Again
There’s been so much conversation around creating a “soft life,” but softness doesn’t have to mean abandoning ambition. You can want more for yourself while also wanting peace. You can build the business and protect your weekends. You can love being a mother and still need time when nobody needs anything from you. You can be grateful for your life and recognize that something about it needs to change.

Those things can exist at the same time. Maybe the real glow-up in this season isn't becoming a completely different woman. It’s returning to parts of yourself that got buried underneath responsibility. So, I say, put music on while you get dressed, wear the outfit instead of saving it, book dinner or spend an afternoon doing something that has absolutely nothing to do with productivity.
These things may sound small, but small rituals have a way of changing the texture of our everyday lives.
Finish the Year Differently
There is still time left in 2026. Not time to frantically accomplish everything you wrote on a vision board nine months ago. Time to be intentional about how you want these final months to feel.
Then start there. Because motherhood will always come with schedules, responsibilities and people who need us. But somewhere inside all of that, there still has to be room for the woman doing the mothering.
This October, we're making room for her too.
