MOM HEALTH IS MOM WEALTH

Self-Care Tips From One Busy Momma To The Next

As a mom, it is so easy to forget about yourself. We so quickly lose ourselves in the everyday hustle and bustle of our routines. We tend to become super woman with little self-care powers. This all can lead to anxiety, seasonal depression, and stress.

It was not until I woke up one day with extreme chest pains and shortness of breath, that I realized this could happen to me. I thought “This is it; I’m having a heart attack.” I went to get checked out only to determine that I was beginning to have anxiety attacks. My doctor sat me down and asked why I was so stressed out. I started to blurt out everything that I do daily. Between running my businesses, kid’s activities, and my husband’s baseball schedule, I was tired! I make it look easy, but deep down, I was burned out.

I was extremely exhausted and moving through life off fumes. On top of that, I was constantly playing catch up, because I could never seem to get anything done. It was in that exact moment, as I rambled off my schedule that I realized, I was not taking care of myself. My doctor mentioned that I needed to incorporate self-care into my daily routine. She explained the importance and stated that if I did not, I would end up making myself very sick and oh boy was she right. I was sitting in her office with chest palpitations.

I am always on the go, my phone is constantly ringing and of course, I am always trying to be there for everybody. Whether it is being a supportive wife, present mother, supportive friend, or business leader. I am always busy! I am the epitome of a busy momma!

I am also the mom that decided to take the steps to incorporate daily self-care habits into my routine - to help bring a sense of sanity to my multi-faceted lifestyle. I started a regimen that I enjoy. Sometimes it is as simple as taking 20 minutes to read scriptures on my bible app or taking the time to go to a restaurant alone to enjoy a meal. It really is the simple things that we long for.

The bottom line is that it is important to care for yourself, too. Here are my top habits that I incorporated into my self-care routine.

Self-Care Tips: For The Busy Momma

#1 Get Enough Rest

Getting enough sleep is the most important for your health and overall well-being.

#2 Exercise A Few Days A Week

Exercise elevates your mood; stamina levels and promotes healthy sleep patterns.

#3 Get A Spa Day

Even if you can't get away for the whole day (which most of us aren't able to), treat yourself to a much needed 60 minute massage.

#4 Read A Book

I know it sounds trivial because you're already exhausted from reading homework packets and work projects. However, reading a good book that you are interested in and love is a great way to escape from your life.

#5 Take A Long Bath

It is time for your body to soak in the heat! Draw a bath filled with relaxing crystals and enjoy some peace and quiet.

#6 Enjoy A Girls Night Out

Get a sitter and enjoy a wonderful time out with your girlfriends. Take in a lot of laughter and enjoy some adult company.

#7 Pamper Yourself

For a busy mom, taking the time to pamper yourself can boost your mood and self-esteem. Grab a Starbucks and hit up Target!

#8 Give Yourself Grace

Stop being so hard on yourself. You are doing an excellent job.
